Dark blood will spurt out and stain walls, enemies with their legs dismembered will begin to crawl after you, and their overall appearance is already disturbing (decaying people with elongated arms and other deformities, baby-turtle-skull creatures who's backs open to release arms that shoot spikes, and bloated ones that explode into smaller aliens). The main way to defeat enemies in the game involves dismembering them with various weapons (A laser cutter, flamethrower, and a weapon that shoots out saw blades are among a few used in the game). Even though the game was made in 2008 and the graphics are somewhat dated, I found it in no way detracted from the gruesomeness. Actually, violence is the games only major concern, (despite CSM giving this a five in language, the rare moments of dialogue are mostly PG-13). Dead Space does, and it isn't afraid to pack on the blood and guts. Obviously something that draws influence from a famous sci-fi horror movie (It has also been compared to The Thing and Event Horizon) must have some unsettling elements. Dead Space is a hybrid of sorts, sometimes drawing influence from Alien, other times paving it's own legacy in the form of a unique zombies in space formula.
